2 Chronicles 29:10–11 (ESV): 10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, in order that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11 My sons, do not now be negligent, for the Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him and to be his ministers and make offerings to him.”
When sin runs rampant in a culture, those who belong to God must be diligent in serving Him. Stay true to your calling, no matter what everyone else does.
When Hezekiah became king of Judah, he reopened the Temple. His father, Ahaz, had shut the doors of the house of the Lord and made altars in every corner of Jerusalem. Hezekiah assembled all the priests and Levites and commanded them to consecrate themselves and the house of the Lord. Once the Temple was consecrated, Hezekiah brought offerings, but there weren’t enough priests to handle them, so the Levites helped, for they were more diligent in consecrating themselves. Then all the people rejoiced before the Lord.
Do you take your calling seriously? Are you diligent in keeping yourself in a state of consecration to the Lord? We do this by walking in the Spirit. He will help us resist our flesh and repent when we go off track. Our deep-seated desire should be, “Use me, Lord.” He won’t do that if you aren’t diligent with your call. Consecrate yourself this morning. Set yourself apart for His divine work. Repent of any sin, and make yourself available to God. This is what it means to be diligent with your calling.
Father, what amazing grace You offer us, that You can use a wretch like me. Take this life and use it for Your glory. Cleanse me and use me, I pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
