2 Chronicles 33:9 (ESV): “9 Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the people of Israel.”
A good leader will bring a nation closer to God, while a bad one will lead it away from Him. Keep this in mind as you cast your vote during elections.
After Hezekiah died, Manasseh took the reins. He was more evil than any other king. He restored the high places and built altars to Baal and Asherah. He even burned his son as an offering to Molech. He is considered the worst king of Judah because of his evil actions. However, he did repent after being taken captive by the Assyrians and brought to Babylon. This was God’s judgment on him for leading the people of Judah into evil.
What criteria do you use when selecting a leader for office? We should use the Word of God as our guide. There are no perfect candidates, but some promote evil while others suppress it. We have responsibility and stewardship over our leaders. We must consider the overall picture: Will this person lead us closer to God or away from Him? Vote accordingly.
Father, we pray over our nation during this time. We ask for a leader who will bring us closer to You, protect the innocent, and defend the unborn. Have mercy on us, we pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
