2 Chronicles 35:20–21 (ESV): 20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to meet him. 21 But he sent envoys to him, saying, “What have we to do with each other, king of Judah? I am not coming against you this day, but against the house with which I am at war. And God has commanded me to hurry. Cease opposing God, who is with me, lest he destroy you.”
Opposing God is a bad idea. It will always lead to a bad outcome when we walk outside of the will of God. Follow Him!
After Josiah reconstituted the Passover, he joined the Assyrians and went to war against Neco, king of Egypt. Neco delivered a warning from God to Josiah. Yes, the Lord can even use unbelievers to speak words of truth to us! Neco said, “What have we to do with each other, king of Judah? I am not coming against you today, but against the house with which I am at war. And God has commanded me to hurry. Cease opposing God, who is with me, lest He destroy you.” Josiah was killed by an archer because he refused to heed God’s warning.
Do you ever consider that God can speak to you through ungodly people? He knows no bounds. He will go to great lengths to get our attention, for He desires to save us from unnecessary troubles and heartache. Don’t be stubborn. If God can speak through a donkey, He can use an unbeliever to reveal His will to you. Don’t rebel against the warnings of the Lord, lest you end up wounded or worse. Know His voice and do what He says!
Father, we thank You for speaking to us in various ways. Give us ears to hear and hearts to obey so that Your name will be magnified. Save us from ourselves, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
