2 Chronicles 36:15–16 (ESV): “15 The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.”
God has been called “the hound of heaven” for a reason: He persistently pursues those He created. Even though many may reject His message of hope, He never stops reaching out.
The last king of Judah before the Babylonian captivity, Zedekiah, chose pride over humility before God. He ignored the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah, leading the people of Judah down a path of idolatry and defilement of God’s temple. Yet, God didn’t abandon them to their ways. He used the Babylonian captivity to get their attention and even sent Daniel and Ezekiel, to name a few, to speak to them during this time. What a relentless God!
Did you know that God is also relentlessly pursuing you? Through many messengers, He calls you to Himself. Don’t harden your heart. Listen to His call and respond. He will never give up on you. What a glorious God and Savior!
Father, thank You for loving us even when we were far from You. Thank You for pursuing us through the Gospel. We dedicate our lives to You. Use us as You will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
