2 Chronicles 7:13-14

2 Chronicles 7:13–14 (ESV): “13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, 14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

God chastises those whom He loves. He will put circumstances in our lives to remind us that He is holy and that we are to be holy. Thankfully, if we turn our hearts back to Him and repent, He will forgive and restore us. What a gracious God we serve.

After the Temple was built and dedicated, the Lord appeared to Solomon and said, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.” The Lord goes on to say, “When” this nation turns from Me (as if to indicate they will), He will chastise them. Thankfully, the Lord gives a remedy as well. He says, “If” (a conditional word that requires man's response), My people (Israel) will humble themselves and pray, seek God’s face, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear their cries, forgive their sins, and heal their land. What grace and mercy God has given.

Did you know God has provided a means of forgiveness and restoration for you? The Bible declares that if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 Jn 3:9). Sounds a lot like our text above! Although 2 Chronicles 7:14 is specific to Israel, it does apply to us. If you find yourself being disciplined by God, follow this prescription! Humble yourself and pray, seek God’s face, and turn from your wicked ways, “Then” God will hear your cries and forgive you.

Father, I confess my sin to You this day. Forgive me for turning away. Restore the joy of my salvation and cleanse me from all unrighteousness I pray in Jesus' name, amen.
