2 Kings 18:5-6

2 Kings 18:5–6 (ESV): “5 He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him. 6 For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses.”

Finishing well…it’s a concept all Christians should strive for.  Nobody will remember how well you started, but they will remember your finish.  So finish well!

When Hezekiah became King of Judah, he did what was right in the sight of the Lord.  He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah.  He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for the people of Israel had made offerings to it.  Sadly, Hezekiah allowed pride to taint his witness at the end of his life by showing the spies of Babylon the riches of Judah.  This brought judgment upon his children, which he was content with.  Hezekiah started well but finished poorly.

How are you running your race?  We can't let circumstances and the pressures of life get in the way of our race.  We must press on towards the prize of the upward call of God.  It's fine to slow your pace, but don't stop running.  The finish line is nearer than you think.  Press into the Lord and allow Him to give you the endurance to keep going.   He is our means of finishing well.  Amen?

Father, thank You for reminding us of the importance of finishing well.  Fill us with a fresh baptism of Your Spirit so we can keep running.  Teach us to number our days we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
