2 Samuel 14:33 (ESV): 33 Then Joab went to the king and told him, and he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king, and the king kissed Absalom.
Full restoration is a beautiful thing. However, it's so easy for us to stop short. It God can forgive and restore us at the expense of His Son, how much more ought we to forgive and restore our human relationships?
David had a son named Amnon and Absalom. They were half-brothers. Absalom also had a blood sister named Tamar. Amnon took her virginity by force and then despised her for it. When Absalom learned of it, he killed Amnon and fled to Geshur. David’s heart was broken for both of his sons. Joab sensing David’s torment, sent a woman to him to urge David to bring Absalom home. David summoned him and kissed him upon his return, but he did not allow him to frequent the king’s presence.
What relationship in your life is causing you pain? You may have lost something as a result of this person. It's understandable to be upset. However, is it justified to separate yourself from them? God is a God of full restoration. David only went halfway. We will see in the end that this creates more problems for him. Don't stop short of full reconciliation. Look to the Lord and ask Him to help you move forward. I promise you He will.
Father, change our hearts towards one another even when we are wronged. Grant forgiveness in our hearts that we can be fully restored we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
