2 Samuel 9:7 (ESV): “7 And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.”
Good friends are hard to find, so when you find them do your utmost to keep them. Remain loyal and it will serve you and your offspring well.
After David settled in as king over Israel, he sought out any remaining relatives of Saul to show kindness to his good friend Jonathan. David inquired of Ziba, a servant of Saul, and found out that Jonathan’s crippled son Mephibosheth was still alive (2 Sam 4:4). David invited him to his home and blessed him because of a vow he made to his father Jonathan. David restored to him the land of his fathers and invited Mephibosheth to eat at the king's table for the rest of his life. David kept his word to Jonathan. He was truly a man of his word.
Did you know you have a friend like David in Jesus? He is the King of restoration and second chances, and He has vowed to watch over you and care for your offspring. He also invites us to eat at His table forever. What a friend we have in Jesus. He is faithful. Walk with Him, talk with Him, and live for Him! Be the friend to Jesus that He is to you. Amen?
Father, we thank You for calling us Your own. What an incredible relationship we have been given in and through Your Son. Let us never take it for granted. May we remain faithful as You are with us we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
