DAY 4 - HUNGER
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for lrighteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
– Matthew 5:6 –
The central command system for the body is the brain. It tells the body what to do, when to do it and how to do it. When our brain detects a change in hormones and nutrients in the blood, it signals our stomach to speak to us. Those hunger pains are a signal to our body that it’s time to eat. That holds true for our spirit. The central command system for the spirit is the soul. It is where our spiritual hunger comes from. When our soul detects spiritual malnourishment, it produces a longing for spiritual food. Many misinterpret this hunger for something physical, such as a relationship, wealth, or euphoria, none of which can satisfy. The soul needs God’s word to feast on!
Take a moment and consider what your soul is saying to you. Is it saying, “I’m hungry”? Don’t think for a second that the world has something to offer you that will satisfy. Following the hunger of the flesh will only lead you down a dead-end path to a well that can never satisfy. Listen to your soul, not your flesh, for your soul longs for the Word of God. When we feed it properly, we will find ourselves in a more intimate and more genuine relationship with Jesus.
Ask the Lord to reveal the things in your life today that are promising satisfaction to your soul but cannot deliver, then ask God to give you discernment to guard against them. Commit to reading the Word of God daily and watch that your desire for Godly things doesn’t increase immensely. The Word of God will produce the desires of God!
“If you aren’t hungry for God, you are full of yourself. That’s why God cannot fill you with His Spirit. But if you will empty yourself, if you will die to self, you’ll be a different person by the time you reach the last page of this book.”
