Amos 3:1-2

Amos 3:1-2 (ESV): “Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt: 2  “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”

Prosperity and abundance are blessings from God. What does the Lord require of a steward but that he be found faithful? Guard your heart, lest you turn His blessing into a curse.

Amos prophesied during the reign of Uzziah in Judah, alongside Isaiah and others. It was a very prosperous season for all Israel—both the Northern Kingdom and Judah. Yet the people had grown so comfortable in God’s prosperity and blessings that they began to use them profanely. As a result, the Lord, through Amos, declared their downfall. He made it known that judgment was coming. They had turned the blessings of God into a curse.

How do you live when God blesses you? Do you press in all the more, or do you become complacent and start living loosely? Do not allow the blessings of God to become a curse in your life. Be grateful, recognizing that God requires you to steward His blessings wisely. Keep your heart centered on God, and all will go well with you. Amen?

Father, we thank You for Your many blessings in our lives. Help us to steward them in a way that glorifies You in all things, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
