Daniel 2:37-38 (ESV): “37 You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the might, and the glory, 38 and into whose hand he has given, wherever they dwell, the children of man, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens, making you rule over them all—you are the head of gold.”
God has long been in the business of using whomever He wills to accomplish His purposes. If He could use the Egyptians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Greeks, and Romans to prepare the world for the first coming of Christ, He can certainly use pagan nations today to do the same—and not just them, but He can use you too!
Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar about his dream of a great statue that represented four kingdoms God would use to prepare the way for the Messiah’s first coming. God began positioning the world through Babylon, which was the head of gold on the statue Nebuchadnezzar saw. Daniel explained that the king’s power, influence, and kingdom were given to him by God and for God’s purposes. Yet he would soon be overtaken by an inferior kingdom—another instrument God would use to continue preparing the way for His Son. Nebuchadnezzar was simply one part of a much larger divine plan.
Do you ever feel unworthy to be used by God? The truth is, we are all unworthy. However, God still chooses to use whomever He desires to prepare the way for the Second Coming of Jesus. Nothing can stop His plan from being fulfilled. As believers, we have the privilege of being a small part of that plan—but even unbelievers are used to accomplish God’s purposes. Be available and willing, and God will use you. He might even use those who are unwilling. He is God, and He can do as He pleases. Amen?
Father, we thank You for including us in Your amazing plan to redeem the world. You are Lord—we are not. Use us as You will, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
