Deuteronomy 25:13-15

Deuteronomy 25:13–15 (ESV): “13 “You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small. 14 You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small. 15 A full and fair weight you shall have, a full and fair measure you shall have, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

The Lord calls His people to be honest in business dealings with one another. Our weights and measures are to be untainted and fair. Don’t forget you are an image bearer of the King of Glory. He doesn't want to be represented as a thief!

The people of Israel were to use honest weights and measures in their dealings with others. Not only is it dishonest to use false weights and measures, but it is a violation of the eighth commandment, “You shall not steal.” Israel was to be light to the lost world around them. Bad business practices would taint their witness and be a poor reflection of the God they serve. The Lord promised them a long life if they would abide according to His command. They would be an abomination to Him otherwise.

Are you being dishonest in your dealings with others? Ripping off your fellow man is never a good way to get ahead. Honesty is the best policy! Too many Christians have tainted the minds of unbelievers with dishonest business practices. Never forget that how you deal with others is a reflection of the God you represent. He doesn't want His reputation damaged, so do the right thing! Be honest, and you will get further ahead. Amen?

Father, we thank You for allowing us the privilege to represent You in the marketplace. Keep us honest that we can be a good witness for You we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
