Deuteronomy 31:19 (ESV): “19 “Now therefore write this song and teach it to the people of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the people of Israel.”
The Lord uses songs profoundly in our lives. He can encourage the downtrodden and speak exuberant joy into the hearts of the faithful. He can also use a song to witness against us. May the words of the Lord’s song accomplish its intended purpose.
The Lord told Moses it was time for him to die. He then commissioned Joshua to lead the people into the Promised Land. After this, the Lord prophesied that the nation of Israel would stray and worship other gods. Moses was instructed to write a song that was to be passed down from generation to generation so that it might stand as a witness against them when they forsook the Lord. That song is recorded in Deuteronomy 32:1-43.
What song is the Lord putting on your heart today? Is it an uplifting song or a song of rebuke? Both have their place and are meant for our good. Let the melody of the Spirit speak to you through the songs the Lord has written through men of old and of new. He surely will speak to us if we will allow Him to. Amen?
Father, thank You for the blessing of music and the profound effect lyrics can have on us. Use Your song to accomplish Your purpose in our hearts. Give us discernment and ears to hear we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
