Ezekiel 16:59-60

Ezekiel 16:59-60 (ESV):59 “For thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you as you have done, you who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant, 60 yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.”

When we are faithless, God remains faithful. He will never cancel an unconditional covenant, no matter how wicked His children may become.

Through Ezekiel, the Lord paints a horrific picture in chapters 14–16 of Israel’s faithlessness. They were saved by grace and clothed in the Lord’s splendor. God took Israel as His wife, yet she did not honor Him as she should. Instead, she played the harlot—worshiping idols and even sacrificing her children by fire. Still, regardless of Israel’s unfaithfulness, God promised to keep His covenant with her. He even proclaimed a new covenant, fulfilled through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son.

How faithful are you to God? Truth be told, we have all played the harlot in one way or another—yet He still loves us. Even though we, the Bride of Christ, have often been unfaithful, the Lord will never forsake His covenant, sealed in the blood of His Son. God took it upon Himself to bring salvation to us; therefore, it does not rest on us. Praise God! Do your best to be faithful, but take comfort in knowing that He will remain faithful no matter what. Amen?

Father, what can we say but thank You? Help us remain faithful as the Bride until You return or call us home. Fill us with Your Spirit, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen
