Ezekiel 40:2-3

Ezekiel 40:2-3 (ESV):In visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel, and set me down on a very high mountain, on which was a structure like a city to the south. When he brought me there, behold, there was a man whose appearance was like bronze, with a linen cord and a measuring reed in his hand. And he was standing in the gateway.

There is coming a day when a third temple will be built in Jerusalem during the Tribulation Period. After that, the Lord Himself will replace that temple with a fourth one during the Millennial Kingdom.  Presently, the Church is His temple.

Ezekiel was given a vision of this Millennial Kingdom temple. He describes that when he saw it from afar, it looked like a city because of its immense size and grandeur. From that point on, the rest of the book of Ezekiel details the specifications of this temple—its walls, gates, dimensions, and the ornate designs, including carvings and tapestries. The Lord also reveals to Ezekiel the activities that will take place there, such as the offerings and sacrifices presented to God. The purpose of this temple will be to illustrate to the citizens of the Millennial Kingdom the true meaning of the Old Covenant and how every aspect of it points to Jesus Christ.

Did you know that Christians are presently the temple of the living God? Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 3:16–17: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” Therefore, let us do our best to live holy lives, remembering that we are the dwelling place of God Himself. Amen?

Father, we thank You for providing a sacrifice sufficient for our sins so that we might become Your dwelling place. Help us to live in such a way that You would be glorified. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
