Ezekiel 7:19

Ezekiel 7:19 (ESV): “They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.”

One of the greatest dangers in life is the pursuit of wealth. It can severely distract the person of God and tempt them with all kinds of evil. In the end, it will prove worthless. Pursue God, not materialism!

Ezekiel, prophesying eleven years before Jerusalem ultimately fell to Babylon, was told to speak against the idolatry of the people of Judah. They had grown wealthy and, as a result, distracted. Their hearts were tainted with the trinkets of this world and the false gods of pagan lands. The Lord declared that their wealth would not help them in the day of His judgment. Their gold and silver would not fill their empty bellies when His judgment was poured out.

What are you living for? What are you pursuing? If it is anything other than God, it’s the wrong thing. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his soul? The riches of this world are deceitful. Stop focusing on physical wealth and focus instead on spiritual health. The things of God will yield far more in your life than anything this world can offer. He is worth the pursuit—amen?

Father, we thank You for reminding us of what is most important. The wealth of this world can taint us deeply. Help us to keep a loose grip on the things of this world and to pursue You alone. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
