Habakkuk 2:2-3

Habakkuk 2:2-3 (ESV):And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. 3  For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”

Waiting on God is a learned discipline that every Christian should be familiar with. The Lord fulfills all that He promises and prophesies. It is often in the waiting that God does His best work in us.

Habakkuk was instructed by God to write down the prophetic word he received concerning the Babylonian conquest, so that the people could run with it—that is, be strengthened in the Lord. There was an appointed time for this prophecy to be fulfilled, a time that would come decades after Habakkuk’s life. Nevertheless, the Lord reminds both the prophet and the readers not to grow weary while waiting. He will surely bring to pass all that He has proclaimed.

Are you currently waiting on God to bring about a promise or prophecy in your own life? Waiting is part of the process. Don’t allow the passage of time to give way to doubt in your heart. Keep the faith and trust the Word of the Lord. If He said it, it will come to pass. While you wait, press into the Lord and allow Him to build up your faith. Wait well, Christian. The fulfillment is coming in His perfect timing. Amen.

Father, We thank You that we can trust every word You have spoken. As we wait for specific things to come to pass, strengthen our faith. Use the waiting to transform us, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
