Hosea 13:14

Hosea 13:14 (ESV): “I shall ransom them from the power of Sheol; I shall redeem them from Death. O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.”

God is all-powerful—nothing is too hard for Him. Just as He can speak things into existence, so too can He rob the grave of those who inhabit it. Death has no power over Him.

The Lord, speaking through Hosea, reveals the detriment of sin. It produces death—both spiritually and physically. That is what God meant when He told Adam, “If you eat of the tree you shall surely die” (Gen. 2:17). Death came upon sinners, and yet God says He will pay the ransom owed. He will redeem all who put their faith in Him from its grip. He did so through Christ! Praise God for victory over the grave.

What is more final than death? We can certainly say “this too shall pass” about everything else in life—except death. Until God made a way, that is. He sent His Son to conquer the grave. In Jesus, death loses its grip and sting. We shall surely die, but so too shall we surely live in Him who has paid the price on our behalf. The grave has no power over anyone who puts their trust in Christ. God is all-powerful, nothing is too hard for Him. Amen?

Father, we thank You for who You are. You are the Creator and Savior of the world. You have done the unthinkable in the sending of Your Son. We rejoice in victory over the grave and look forward to spending eternity with You. Be glorified in our lives until You call us home, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
