Isaiah 33:2 (ESV): “O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning our salvation in the time of trouble.”
There is an indescribable peace that fills the heart of a person who knows that God is on their side. When we are dependent on Him, we become unshakable—for His power is made perfect in weakness. Put your hope in Him, and watch Him do amazing things.
Isaiah records a change of heart among the people of Judah. It appears they have finally learned that God is their only hope. He is the help they need. Though the Assyrians remain a threat, the people of Judah are now looking to God to save them. He is their rescue and deliverer. Their confidence is no longer in themselves but in God. They expect Him to move as He wills—and what a beautiful place that is to arrive.
Have you come to a place of true dependence on God? I’m not talking about a last-ditch, Hail Mary prayer. That is desperation, not dependence. While God may graciously respond to our cries of desperation, His ultimate desire is to teach us that He is dependable. Discipline yourself to depend on God. His grace is sufficient, and He will flood your heart with a peace that surpasses understanding. He is enough. Amen?
Father, all glory, honor, and power belong to You. You are constant and unchangeable—therefore we can depend on You to work in ways that are best for us. May we trust You always and live in Your grace and peace. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
