Isaiah 37:14 (ESV): “Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.”
Prayer is the most underutilized weapon in the Christian’s arsenal. As Corrie Ten Boom once said, “The devil smiles when we make plans. He laughs when we get too busy. But he trembles when we pray.” Get on your knees and do some damage to the enemy.
Isaiah records the response of King Hezekiah when he heard the threat of Rabshakeh, the chief spokesman for the Assyrians. Hezekiah went to the sanctuary of the Lord and prayed for God’s intervention. The Lord responded with a promise that Judah would be delivered from the hand of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria. And it happened just as the Lord said it would. God hears our prayers and acts in accordance with His will.
What is one thing you wish you had done differently in your life? Most Christians, when asked this question, respond, “Prayed more.” So let’s take this opportunity to start praying more—so that when we transition from this life to the next, we do so without regret. God moves when His children pray. You don’t have to wait until your life is falling apart to pray. Make it a habit now, and watch God move as you seek His face.
Father, what a privilege it is to pray. Thank You for opening Your throne room to us. May we take full advantage of this gift and pray without ceasing. May Your will be done. In Jesus’ name, amen.
