Isaiah 40:3

Isaiah 40:3 (ESV): “A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

God is a God of preparation. He doesn’t react to the world He created and rules—He executes His plan as He sees fit. Therefore, He makes preparations to accomplish His purposes. Today, He is using Christians to prepare the way for the Second Coming of Christ!

After just confirming to Hezekiah that Babylon would one day overtake Judah (after Hezekiah’s death), Isaiah turns to encourage the people with the news of a far greater King. This King is the Messiah. In the sovereign plan of God, there would be a voice crying in the wilderness. We know this prophecy refers to John the Baptist (Matt. 3:3), whose purpose was to prepare the way for the first coming of Christ. This message was meant to encourage the people of Judah to stay the course and live for the Lord.

Did you know that the Church is currently preparing the way for the Lord’s Second Coming? It’s true. We, as the Body of Christ, are like modern-day John the Baptists—preparing the way for the return of the Lord. We too must stay the course by making disciples and proclaiming to the world the coming judgment. This is how God is preparing the world for Jesus. Speak up and fulfill your purpose!

Father, prepare us for heaven as You prepare this world for the Second Coming. Give us boldness and courage to be the same voice crying out in the wilderness, declaring that the Lion of the Tribe of Judah is coming soon. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
