Isaiah 40:31 (ESV): “…but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Waiting on God means remaining hopeful in any given situation. It requires us to actively depend and rely on the Lord. Great strength and renewal are given to those who wait on Him.
Isaiah offers a word of encouragement to the weak and weary in Judah. He reminds them:
“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength” (Isaiah 40:28–29). Those who are weary and faint can find strength in Him as they wait on Him.
What is your go-to method for renewing your inner strength? If you’re looking within you will come up empty-handed. Waiting on God must be our means of finding strength and renewal. He is omnipotent—all-powerful! He has exactly what we need in every situation. If you depend on yourself, you will remain weak and weary. But when you depend on God—relying on His unlimited resources—you will be filled with hope. This is what it means to wait on Him.
Father, thank You for being everything we need in every situation. You alone are the source of our strength and the One we wait upon. Renew our strength and help us to remain dependent and reliant on You, now and forevermore. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
