Isaiah 44:2-3 (ESV): “2 Thus says the Lord who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.”
God desires to pour out His Spirit upon His people—not merely to sprinkle them, but to saturate them. The key is thirst! Pour out Your Spirit, Lord!
Isaiah speaks of a blessing in this life that transcends our circumstances: the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Even though Judah would be taken captive to Babylon, they could still expect to experience the Spirit of God being poured out. Though they would find themselves in a dry and thirsty land, God would use that very place to prepare their hearts for a flood of power through His Spirit. They could count on it coming to pass and so can you!
Have you experienced the outpouring of the Spirit?
This is distinct from the sealing of the Spirit at salvation (Ephesians 1:13–14). God desires to pour out His Spirit upon you to empower you to be His witness (Acts 1:8). Are you thirsty for this deluge? We are called to seek, to ask—and then we can expect His Spirit to flood our hearts.
Take a moment today and ask God to pour out His Spirit upon you. He will do it—this is His will for you. Amen?
Father, we ask You even now—pour out Your Spirit upon us. We have not because we ask not. So we ask now: pour out Your Spirit and empower us to be Your witnesses. Be glorified and made famous through our lives, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
