Isaiah 55:1a (ESV): ““Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.”
In his book The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer states, “God waits to be wanted. He calls to the thirsty—not the self-satisfied. The soul that thirsts will find Him, for He never denies the longing heart.”
Isaiah invites thirsty people to come and drink from the only well that can truly satisfy. Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is the only one who can quench their thirst. Religion and rituals cannot do it. Their craving for idols and other gods reveals that they have not been drinking from the right well. Their souls cannot be satisfied with anything other than the true drink that comes from God.
Are you thirsting today? Jesus invites you to drink from the well of His grace and love. He told the woman at the well (John 4) that if she drank from His well, she would never thirst again. Come to Jesus and drink of His goodness. Don’t run to some other well. Only He can satisfy your thirst. What are you waiting for? Get before Jesus and let Him refresh your soul with the living water of His Spirit.
Father, protect us from running to other wells. We come to You now. Satisfy our thirst. We desire only You. Baptize us afresh in Your Spirit and send us out into a dry and weary land to offer the same drink You offer us. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
