Jeremiah 20:9 (ESV): “If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in,and I cannot.”
God won’t force you to share His prophetic Word, but He will place a conviction in your heart to speak it. What you do with that conviction is up to you.
Jeremiah was growing weary in well doing. He was tired of the rejection from his countrymen. He had been beaten and imprisoned for declaring God’s Word. And yet, there was a fire in his heart—a conviction—that he must continue, regardless of the consequences. He understood this was his purpose. To cease speaking or to change the message would be to deny his calling. It’s not that he couldn’t speak or change it—but that he wouldn’t. He would not betray his purpose.
Are you growing weary in well doing? Have you thought about staying silent or giving up? Then you can relate to Jeremiah. Every believer has the responsibility to share the Gospel. Many have chosen to either remain silent or alter the message because of the personal cost involved. But the Lord is calling you to be faithful. Return to what He has called you to do and speak the message in love—fully and faithfully. Don’t change a thing. It might cost you something—but so will remaining silent. Choose eternity over the temporary. Amen?
Father, forgive us for growing weary in well doing. Place in our hearts a steadfast resolve to do Your will, no matter the cost. Help us maintain a kingdom mindset and a willingness to sacrifice for Your glory. Fill us with Your Spirit, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
