Jeremiah 25:15-16

Jeremiah 25:15-16 (ESV): “15 Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. 16 They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of the sword that I am sending among them.”

There is a cup of wrath that awaits every individual who has sinned against our great God and Creator. Since all have sinned, no one will escape this cup—unless they place their trust in Jesus, who drank the cup for us!

After Jeremiah spoke of the seventy years of chastisement for the faithful who were carried away to Babylon, God declared the wrath He would pour out on every unfaithful nation—including those in Jerusalem and Israel who were not genuine in faith. Every one of them would drink the cup of the wrath of God. No one would escape it. This is a telescoping prophecy: it began with the fall of Babylon and will have its final fulfillment at the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11–15).

Aren’t you glad Jesus came to drink the cup of wrath on your behalf? Understand, the cup had to be satisfied—it is the consequence of sin. The Father laid upon His Son the wrath that belonged to you. Access to the satisfaction of His wrath comes by faith in Jesus. If you are in Christ, that wrath was satisfied at the Cross. If you are not in Christ, the cup of wrath still awaits you. The cup will be satisfied one way or another. I say, let Jesus satisfy it for you. Amen?

Father, what a gracious and good Father You are—that You would provide a way for Your wrath to be satisfied on our behalf. We are humbled and ask that anyone storing up wrath would bow their knee to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
