Jeremiah 26:5-6

Jeremiah 36:5-6 (ESV):  And Jeremiah ordered Baruch, saying, “I am banned from going to the house of the Lord, so you are to go, and on a day of fasting in the hearing of all the people in the Lord’s house you shall read the words of the Lord from the scroll that you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities.”

No one can stop the Word of God from going forward. When one servant is silenced, another is sent. Nothing will thwart God’s Word from being heard.

Jeremiah was banned from going to the temple by King Zedekiah because he spoke unfavorably toward Judah (Jer. 32:3). Yet he was proclaiming the prophetic Word of God. Still, the Word could not be stopped. Jeremiah didn’t rebel against the system but instead found a way around it—he sent his scribe Baruch to write down the message and read it before the people. God’s purpose in pronouncing judgment was to move the people to turn from their sin and repent.

Have you ever tried to silence God’s Word? It’s one thing when the world attempts to suppress the prophetic Word of God, but it’s quite another when those who call themselves Christians do the same. Understand this: nothing will stop God from declaring His truth with the desire that people turn from sin and turn to Christ. Don’t harden your heart like the people of Judah. Embrace His Word and let it accomplish its purpose in you. Amen?

Father, thank You for confronting us with the truth of Your Word. Protect our hearts from becoming so hard that we would, in turn, attempt to silence it. Let Your Word accomplish every purpose You have for it in our lives. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
