Jeremiah 33:14-16 (ESV): “14 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’”
There is coming a day when Jesus will physically sit on the throne of David in Jerusalem to rule and reign. It will be the most glorious millennium this world has ever known. Maranatha!
In chapters 31 and 32, Jeremiah is given confirmation about the restoration and rebuilding of Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. The Lord instructs him to buy a piece of land. This was a sign to all Judah that God would indeed restore and rebuild Jerusalem. Then the Lord gives another Messianic prophecy concerning the millennial reign of Christ. One day, Jesus will physically sit on the throne of David and reign for a thousand years. The Lord never fails to remind us of His ultimate plan.
As Christians, don’t we find that when we’re going through trials, God always points us to better days ahead? He may not give us a prophetic word directly, but He speaks prophetically through His Word. The rapture itself is meant to be an encouragement (1 Thess. 4:13–18), especially when we think of the death of our loved ones. Paul says, “Encourage one another with these words.” God reminds us that our “light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Cor. 4:17). Ultimately, He reminds us that Jesus is coming soon and that those who belong to Him will rule and reign with Him in the Millennial Kingdom and reside with Him forever. Amen?
Father, remind us—just as You did Jeremiah—that better days are ahead. You have given us Your Son, and He is coming to rule and reign physically. Encourage our hearts and stir within us a sense of urgency, for time is short. May we live for You. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
