Joshua 3:7-8a

Judges 3:7–8a (ESV): “7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth. 8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel…”

The Lord chastens those He loves. He allows circumstances as a form of correction to come into our lives when we are unwilling to heed His warnings and repent. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He changes not!

Not long after Joshua died, the people forgot their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth. The Lord warned Israel that if they worshipped the gods of their enemies He would bring judgment upon them. Thus, their enemies were able to prevail against them. When Israel had learned her lesson and cried out to God, He gave her a deliverer. Othniel, the younger brother of Caleb, Ehud, the son of Gera, and Shamgar, the son of Anath, were sent by God at different times to deliver His people. God wasn't looking for retribution for their sin, just repentance.

Are you experiencing the correction of God today? Understand that He loves you and wants what is best for you. Take note of where you fell, repent, and go back and do your first works. That is all God is after. His will is far better than ours. Surrender to the Lord alone and live at His feet. It is here that you will find blessing and peace. He is a good Father and will discipline those whom He loves.

Father, we thank You for correcting us when we are in sin. We desire to stay true to You so give us wisdom when we depart Your path. Keep us in Your will so we don’t have to experience Your correction we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
