Judges 10:6

Judges 10:6 (ESV): 6 The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the Lord and did not serve him.

It’s been said, “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.” This holds true in every aspect of life. If we want to walk in the freedom of Christ, we must put on Christ daily and stop making the same old choices that lead us astray.

The children of Israel went back to whoring after other gods after being delivered by Gideon (Jg 8:33). Abimelech, Gideon’s son, killed all seventy of his brothers and reigned over the people of Shechem. The Lord returned his evil deeds upon him and he was overthrown. Then Tola, the son of Puah, judged Israel for twenty-three years. The people returned to their evil ways and worshipped other gods and thus the Lord handed them over to the Philistines and Ammonites for eighteen years until they repented. He then delivered them by the hand of Jephthah. This is a continual cycle for Israel.

How prone are you to return to your sin? Christ is the cycle-breaker. We don’t have to live in our sinful patterns anymore. We’ve been set free by Jesus. However, just as a dog returns to his own vomit, we are prone to return to our sins. We must change our minds (repent) and be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Ro 12:1-2). Seek the Lord daily and He will keep you from sin. He is the way of escape from our sinful pattern. Amen?

Father, thank You for delivering us from ourselves. Help us put on Christ daily and walk in the Spirit that You would be glorified. Keep us free that we might honor You through our walk we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
