Matthew 20:26-28

Matthew 20:26-28 (ESV):26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Followers of Jesus are called to be servants of Jesus. It is our calling and should be our greatest delight. He came to serve so that we can serve Him and His people.

The mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus asking if her two sons, James and John, could sit at His right and left in His kingdom. Jesus replied that she did not know what she was asking for, and then said that was for His Father to decide. He then went on to say that if anyone wants to be great in His kingdom, they must be a servant, just as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve.

Are you a servant of the Most High God? Jesus made it plain that those who follow Him are to serve as He served. Jesus humbled Himself to the lowest servant position by washing His disciples’ feet. He will not expect you to do anything less than what He has done. Serve the Lord, Christian. Serve His people. That is part of becoming more like Him. Amen.

Father, direct our steps to serve in the same way Jesus did. May we do so with gratitude, humility, and love all the days of our lives. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
