Matthew 7:11 (ESV): “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
The goodness of God is revealed in this: we are invited to ask, seek, and knock with confidence, trusting that He delights to give what is truly good. He does not respond with what harms us, but with what is best for us.
Jesus is pointing us to the heart of God in this passage. He is a perfectly good Father—eager to be involved in our lives and attentive to our prayers. He is not withholding blessing from us or playing games with our needs. Those who ask, seek, and knock can rest in the assurance that He answers out of His goodness. He will never exchange what is good for something evil.
Are you asking, seeking, and knocking with the right heart? Don’t be surprised when God says no if your request is misplaced. James reminds us that we may ask and not receive because we ask with wrong motives (Ja 4:3). John said that we can have confidence that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us (1 Jn 5:14). We must come before Him with pure motives, trusting Him with the outcome. He is a good Father, and He will always act according to His goodness, amen?
Father, we praise You for Your unfailing goodness toward us. You have given far beyond what we could ever ask or imagine. Teach us to submit to Your will and reflect Your goodness to others. For Your honor and glory, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
