Matthew 9:1-2

Matthew 9:1-2 (ESV): “And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. 2 And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.””

The most glorious words any person can hear are, “Your sins are forgiven.” This is man’s greatest need. Praise God that by grace through faith in Christ our sins can be forgiven! That alone is enough to be thankful for all the days of your life.

Jesus encountered a remarkable moment while at home in Capernaum. He was preaching the Word to a packed house when, all of a sudden, the thatched roof was opened and a bed was lowered down before Him (Mark 2:1–4). The man was paralyzed and needed healing. Jesus first forgave his sins because that was his greatest need; then He told him to get up and walk. By faith, this man received a clean slate and a place in the Kingdom with King Jesus!

What do you believe is your greatest need today? Is it healing from a disease? A financial blessing to pay off debt? I tell you, your greatest need is the forgiveness of your sins. Jesus can do those secondary things, but His ministry is primarily about the greater miracle—healing us spiritually. Your sins are far greater than you realize; they separate you from God. Christ came to provide healing from sin. Ask for the others, certainly—but be grateful above all for His miraculous work of healing your soul. Amen?

Father, thank You for providing eternal forgiveness of our sins through Your Son. We pray that we would rejoice in what You have done all the days of our lives. It is enough. Glory to You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
