Micah 4:3-5

Micah 4:3-5 (ESV): He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide disputes for strong nations far away; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore; 4  but they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. 5  For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.“

The fallen nature of man, left unredeemed, will rebel against all authority—including the physical rule of Christ. We don’t need a better environment; we need to surrender to Christ.

Micah describes a day when swords will be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks. The nations will be at peace and experience great prosperity. Yet there will still be those who worship false gods. Jesus will be physically ruling in Jerusalem, but not everyone will follow Him. Satan will be bound during this time. This just goes to show that we are capable of sinning even without the temptation of the enemy.

Are you tired of the flesh winning? The answer isn’t to try harder or do more. We must trust more deeply in the efficacious blood of Christ and the empowering work of the Spirit of God to overcome our flesh. We are redeemed in Christ, but our flesh remains fallen, which means we are still capable of sinning—even without the temptation of the enemy. We must not trust ourselves, but Christ and the Spirit, if we hope to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Amen?

Father, we thank You for the redemptive work of Jesus. We pray for the continued transformation of our lives by the power of Your Spirit. We ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.
