Nehemiah 13:30-31

Nehemiah 13:30–31 (ESV): “Thus I cleansed them from everything foreign, and I established the duties of the priests and Levites, each in his work; and I provided for the wood offering at appointed times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.”

Being a leader means making tough decisions. A weak leader does what the people want; a strong leader does what is best for the people. Be a strong leader!

As Nehemiah organized the nation of Judah, he reinstated the feasts and called the people to follow the law. The Levites stood before the assembly, reminding them of the sins of past generations and how their ancestors had broken the law and been taken into captivity. They praised God for His mercy and grace. Nehemiah then urged the people to walk in obedience to the Law. When he discovered those who were not, he took action, sometimes laying hands on them, beating them, pulling out their hair, and making them swear to follow God. Nehemiah took his role seriously and led the people with strong dedication.

What kind of leader are you? One who pleases people or one who does what is best for them? You get to decide what kind of leader you will be—a strong, godly leader or a weak, sinful one. The world needs the former. The church needs the former. Our families need the former! The world is desperate for strong leadership. Anyone can do it if they yield themselves to God! Fearing the Lord is the key to being a strong leader. Do what is right for those you lead, not what is easy. Amen?

Father, thank You for being a strong leader and influence in our lives. Create in us a steadfast love for those we lead so that we might lead like You. Fill us with a spirit of boldness and unwavering faith to lead well. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
