Numbers 14:36–38 (ESV): “36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation grumble against him by bringing up a bad report about the land— 37 the men who brought up a bad report of the land—died by plague before the Lord. 38 Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive.”
One of the ways we please God is by walking by faith (Heb 11:6). If we walk by sight we will be seized with fear and will be disobedient to the Lord. Keep your eyes on the Lord and walk by faith. It will keep you obedient!
Moses was instructed to send twelve spies into the Promised Land. It was already given to them! They were simply to report the fruitfulness of Canaan. Rather, ten of the twelve gave a fearful report of the size and strength of the sons of Anak, the Nephilim. They said, “We stand no chance against these giants.” Thus, the people revolted and desired to choose a new leader and return to Egypt. They had no faith in God! This displeased the Lord and therefore none from that generation entered the Promised Land, except Caleb and Joshua because they walked by faith!
Are you walking by faith or fear? The road ahead can seem uncertain, but if God has assured you of His plan be obedient no matter what lies ahead. Walk by faith and you will be obedient. We must trust in the unseen plan of God rather than what is revealed by sight. He is more than capable of delivering us from any foe. Be obedient by walking by faith. This is what pleases God.
Father, help us to be the Caleb’s and Joshua’s of our day. May we not cower by what we see but stay the course and walk by faith we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
