Numbers 32:1;5 (ESV): “1 Now the people of Reuben and the people of Gad had a very great number of livestock. And they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for livestock. 5 And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan.”
Stopping short of the fullness of God’s plan is a tragic decision. Don't settle for less and live on the fringes of His blessing. Cross over the Jordan and you will find far greater blessings awaiting you.
The tribes of Reuben and Gad desired to settle outside of the Promised Land. They had a great number of livestock and saw that the fields of the Moabites and Midianites were great for grazing so they desired to stop short of Canaan and stay on the east side of the Jordan River. Moses granted them this request so long as they promised to go to war with their brothers and conquer the enemies that were inhabiting Canaan.
Are you journeying towards the center of God’s blessings or have you stopped short? It's easy to settle for less, but God has substantially more for you. Stay the course and desire all that He has for you. Nothing less, nothing more. Contentment is key but it can easily be masked by complacency. Don't settle for less, Christian. Walk obediently towards the prize. You will be glad you did. Nothing is better than God’s perfect will for your life. Amen?
Father, we thank You for blessing us beyond all measure. Help us to pursue Your best and not settle for less. May You be glorified through every blessing we receive we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
