Proverbs 14:12 (ESV): “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
It was Frank Sinatra who sang “My Way.” Ironically, his last words before he died were, “I’m losing.” Our way is not the right way. We must do life His way if we desire to be on the winning side of death.
Solomon knew that the greatest challenge for man is not resisting sin but listening to himself. Here, he instructs his sons not to be misled by their own thoughts about life and how they ought to live. They must look to God and be led by Him if they desire to come to the right places and conclusions. It will be a daily battle, but if they surrender to the Lord, they will have life—and that more abundantly.
How do you know if you are doing life your way or His way? Just look at where the path leads you. If your walk brings you closer to the Lord, then you are doing it His way. If you are drawn away from God, then you are doing it your way. Our thoughts are not His thoughts; therefore, we need to stay grounded in His Word and surrendered to the Spirit to do it His way. This mode of living will never fail you!
Father, we thank You for guiding us through this life and into the next. Give us Your mind that we might walk in Your ways and be pleasing to You. Our goal is to do Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
