Proverbs 19:27

Proverbs 19:27 (ESV):  Cease to hear instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.”

It’s been said about the Bible, “This Book will keep you from sin, and sin will keep you from this Book.” David made the same claim in Psalm 119:11: “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” If you want to live for the Lord, you must listen to His instructions!

Solomon understood the danger of departing from God’s instruction—the book of Ecclesiastes tells us all about it. That’s why he warned his sons of this grave error. If they wanted to remain obedient to God, they needed to stay in His Word. It’s a choice. They could decide to keep themselves accountable by listening to the Word and applying it to their lives, or they could forsake it and be vulnerable to sin. The choice was theirs.

Does the Word of God have priority in your life? Many would say yes, but they fail to read it regularly. Doing so puts you in a vulnerable position. We need daily bread to keep us on track. It should be a non-negotiable in the life of every Christian. If you don’t have a regular Bible reading plan, get one—and stick to it. It will save you much grief and give you wisdom for every situation. Read the Word!

Father, we thank You for giving us a treasure in the Word of God. It is Your instruction manual for us. May we seek it like hidden treasure every day of our lives. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
