Psalm 143:10 (ESV): “10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!”
There is nothing sweeter than being directly in the will of God. We get there by way of His leading and our obedience. He teaches us what His will is, and then we must act upon by way of His Spirit.
David didn’t ask God to cause His will to be done in his life. Instead, he asked God to teach him His will and lead him by His good Spirit. David understood that the knowledge and power to do the will of God must be taught to us because our thoughts are not His thoughts, nor are our ways His ways. David didn’t instruct God on what His will should be but was instead open to the Lord’s instruction. It is as if he is saying, “I will obey—just show me the path.” God will certainly instruct those who desire to be in His will.
Do you approach the Lord with a heart to instruct or to be instructed? Are you willing to be obedient to Him when He shows you His will? This is how God works—when we come to Him openly, desiring to know and do His will, He will instruct and empower us accordingly. Center your heart on this thought: “Teach me, Lord.” Then be ready to walk in His will, for He will certainly show you the path. Humble yourself today and surrender your will to His.
Father, we thank You for speaking truth to us daily. Forgive us for the times we have sought to instruct You rather than be instructed. Teach us to know and to do Your will by Your good Spirit, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen
