Psalm 143:5-6

Writer: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Psalm 143:5–6 (ESV): “5  I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. 6  I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah”

The soul is the center of our lives. When it thirsts for God, our lives reflect it. Sadly, so many redirect its passion to horizontal things. Obey your thirst, as it were, and stretch your hand out to God!

David was reflecting on his life in the midst of his troubles. He was reminded of all that God had done. He was also reminded of the thirst of his soul. No matter what he sought after in this life, if it wasn’t God, he was still thirsty. However, when he stretched his arm up to the Lord, his thirst was satisfied.

What direction is your arm reaching today? Where are you looking to satisfy your thirst? If it is a relationship, a substance, or a friend group, you are looking to the wrong source. None of these things can satisfy the thirst of your soul. You must reach out to God. Only He can satisfy a thirsting soul. Take a moment to reflect on how He has satisfied your thirst, and be reminded today to go to the everlasting well of His presence and nowhere else.

Father, we thank You for being the satisfaction of our souls. We long for You alone. See our outstretched arms this day and satisfy our souls daily, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
