Psalm 146:3–4 (ESV): “3 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. 4 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.”
There is only one Savior—His name is Jesus. We honor governing authorities because they are from God, but we do not put our trust in them.
What a profound truth the psalmist brings before us! He reminds us that man is nothing more than dust. When we die, all our plans die with us. That is why we do not put our trust in a governing agent or authority—we trust and rely on God. All authority is from God (Rom. 13:1-3; Titus 3:1; 1 Pet. 2:13), and we should honor our leaders and be subject to them, as long as what they ask us to do complies with Scripture. Our trust is in God, the only Savior.
Consider your life—are you trusting in a human being to provide, sustain, or heal you? God can use people to accomplish these things, but our trust belongs to Him alone. There is no true salvation found in man. Only God can truly save, so put your trust 100% in Him. He will never let you down.
Father, forgive us for trusting in others at times. Remind us daily to put our trust in no one but You. To You alone belongs the allegiance of our hearts. We give them to You now, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
