1 Kings 12:1-2

1 Kings 12:1–2 (ESV): “Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. 2 And as soon as Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt.”

God uses sinful man to accomplish His purposes.  He doesn't orchestrate evil but uses it.  Therefore, whatever evil we find ourselves dealing with nationally or personally has a divine purpose.

After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam took the reigns.  Before this, Jeroboam, the servant of Solomon, fled to Egypt after Ahijah the Shilonite prophesied he would rule over ten of the tribes of Israel, for Solomon sought to kill him.  Jeroboam rallied the forced labor and asked the king to reduce the workload.  Rehoboam rejected the counsel of the old men and increased the labor load.  It was a turn of affairs brought about by the Lord that he might fulfill His word given to Jeroboam by the prophet Ahijah (1 Kg 12:15).

Do you feel uneasy about what is transpiring in our country?  We, like Israel, have abandoned the Lord to sacrifice at the altars of Ashteroth (sexual sin) and Molech (abortion). Thus, God is judging our land.  We are not Israel, but as God’s church, we must start living right and abhorring evil.  If we will humble ourselves, and pray and seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, He will forgive us and heal our land (2 Chr 7:14).    Return to your first love and rest in Him.  God is turning the tide of our nation because of sin.  Repentance is what is needed.  It starts with you.

Father, forgive us for we know not what we do. I repent and ask that You would be merciful to our nation.  Have Your way and help us to rest in Your sovereign plan we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
