1 Kings 18:26 (ESV): “26 And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they had made.”
Behind every false god is a demon (1 Cor 10:20). All demons, including Satan, are subject to their Creator. The fact that Baal didn't answer is proof of this. Don’t fear demons who are masking as false gods. Fear Elohim, God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is truly God!
After Elijah met Ahab, he suggested they have a showdown to determine who God is. Ahab gathered 450 prophets of Baal, and they made two altars of wood, each topped with a sacrifice. The prophets cried out to Baal to consume their sacrifice. They even cut themselves, but there was no answer. When Elijah cried out to Elohim, fire came from heaven and consumed the offering. The showdown was settled, the God of Israel is Elohim and not Baal!
Who do you fear? God? Satan and demons? Although demons do possess power, they are not autonomous. If they were, Satan would have manifested as Baal and consumed the offering. God didn't allow it so that everyone would know that He is the one true living God. Don't fear the demonic. They are subject to Jesus as their Creator. We too have been given power over them, as it is written, “Greater is He who is in us, then He who is in the world (1 Jn 4:4).” Fear Elohim alone. Amen?
Father, we thank You for revealing Yourself as omnipotent (all-powerful) and almighty. Use us, as You did Elijah, to show Yourself strong over every principality and power in this world we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
