Matthew 5:5

Matthew 5:5 (ESV):  ““Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Meekness is not weakness. It is power under control. It speaks of a proper balance between anger and indifference, of a powerful personality properly controlled, and of humility. The meek are truly blessed!

When Jesus spoke of meekness here, He turned the world’s idea of strength upside down. Our culture celebrates those who are loud, aggressive, and self-assertive. But Jesus says the ones who inherit the earth are the people who don’t insist on their own way but are not willing to back down from what is right. They stand their ground in humility and with endurance. Our greatest example of meekness is Jesus.

Are you meek? The greatest way to tell is how you respond to situations that test your meekness. When you’re challenged in the world, do you become indignant, or do you remain patient but firm? Do you lash out, or do you remain humble? The way you control yourself in difficult situations demonstrates whether you are meek or not. The Lord is looking for meek people to inherit the earth. He will cause them to flourish in this world for His glory. Be a meek servant like Jesus! Amen?

Father, we praise You for giving us such a wonderful example of meekness in Jesus. Help us to walk and talk like He did in every situation we find ourselves in. We desire to represent You well, so keep us meek and humble, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
