21 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 3

DAY 3 - FREEDOM

“34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

– John 8:34-36 –

It’s no secret that Christians still sin. Although our souls are redeemed, our flesh is still in a fallen state and, thus, it is vital that we walk in the Spirit, so that we do not fulfill the desires of the flesh. When we allow the flesh opportunity, it brings us into captivity. Thankfully, Jesus is a chain-breaking, slave-freeing Savior that is more than able to set the captive free. If you are in Christ, you already have the freedom you seek, now it’s time to lay hold of it.

What is it that takes you captive? What is holding on to you? Is it lust, greed, anger, malice? All of those things can easily master us, but they cannot master Jesus. He is the truth (John 8:32) and the truth shall set us free! If you are in Christ, you are no longer a slave to sin but a son. You are an heir of the King and His kingdom. You can choose freedom!

If you find yourself in sin today first repent, then turn from your sin and ask God for forgiveness and empower you to change. Then protect yourself by not allowing things in your life that will tempt you to fall back into sin. Do whatever is necessary to remove anything that might become a temptation! Resist the Devil and his deceptions and he will flee. Finally, fill your time with following God. Contribute to Kingdom work and spend time serving others.

“Long my imprisoned spirit lay; Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee.”

– Charles Wesley –
