Daniel 2:49 (ESV): “Daniel made a request of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained at the king’s court.”
You are nothing without God and those He surrounds you with. It’s easy to remember that when you aren’t being used—but quite another thing to recall when you’ve been exalted. Remain humble, and don’t forget those who have supported you.
After Daniel revealed Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the king fell on his face and paid him homage. He commanded that an offering and incense be presented, declaring Yahweh the God of all gods. Daniel was in great danger of forgetting who made him great, yet he didn’t fall for Satan’s trap. He remained humble as he was rewarded and requested that his friends—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—also be appointed to high positions in Babylon.
Have you ever fallen for the trap of self-glorification? You may have never said, “I will become like the Most High God,” but perhaps you’ve believed an incorrect estimation of yourself. That goes both ways, by the way. The safest place to rest your thoughts about yourself is before God. He will not only give you the right perspective but also remind you of all those He has equipped to support you—the “little guys,” as it were. Don’t ever forget about them. Amen?
Father, what do we have to offer You but filthy rags? Yet You use us anyway. Help us never to forget You or those You bring into our lives to accomplish Your will. To You belongs the glory forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
