Deuteronomy 8:2

Deuteronomy 8:2 (ESV): 2 And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

God doesn't tempt us but He does test us! He desires for us to know what is in our hearts. We would do well to remember His mighty hand all the days of our lives and walk humbly before Him amid our testing.

Moses continues to reiterate to the children of Israel the importance of forsaking false idols and being obedient to the commands of God. He reminds them of the purpose of testing, that God might show them what is in their hearts. When fear is revealed they must remember the mighty deliverance their fathers experienced in Egypt. God is mighty and He shows Himself strong through those who are loyal to Him.

How do you fare when the Lord tests you? Don’t despise it for He is revealing our hearts. He desires for sin attitudes and actions to be exposed so we can repent and be transformed. Without the testing of God, we would never know what is truly in our hearts. Walk humbly before your God. Remember His deliverance. Finally, don't despise His testing for He is refining you to become more like Jesus!

Father, we thank You for your testing. We know that is meant for our good. Help us to be quick to respond to what You revealed. Keep us humble and obedient we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
