Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy 9:4 (ESV): “4 “Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you.”

Perspective is incredibly important to our reality. We can fool ourselves into thinking we are far better than we are. May our perspective always be that the Lord has done 100% of the work for our entrance into heaven and He should get all the glory!

Moses reminds the children of Israel that the Lord will dispossess the land from their enemies not because they are righteous but because these nations are wicked. God isn't giving Israel the land because they are righteous or upright in heart. They are not! They are stubborn people who provoked God's wrath. It is a gift of grace that these folks get to inherit this land. They have done nothing to deserve it.

How do you view your entrance to the “Promised Land?” Understand, it is only by the grace of God and the imputed righteousness of Christ that we can enter. It's not because we are good but because God is good. It's not because we love Him but because He loves us. It's not because we have been faithful but because He is faithful. Put your salvation into perspective, Christian. It's by GRACE, through FAITH, in CHRIST alone that gains us entrance to heaven. Nothing more and nothing less.

Father, all praise, honor, and glory to You for saving our wayward souls. We do not deserve such a gift as this but we thank You immensely for it. Help us to always remember it's not our righteousness that gets us into heaven but that of Your Son, in Jesus' name we pray, amen.
