Deuteronomy 20:3-4

Deuteronomy 20:3–4 (ESV): 3 and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, 4 for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’

Every day we step onto a spiritual battlefield. However, the Lord goes with us and will fight for us. He will give us victory over every enemy. We have nothing to fear because God is on our side.

The Lord gave the children of Israel some rules of engagement when they went to war. When they came up against a city, they were to offer terms of peace to it. If their enemy refuses to yield to them, then the Lord will give them over to them. All they had to do was follow God’s instructions and victory was sure. Egpyt was to serve as a reminder to them that they have nothing to fear for God is with them!

Do you sense the presence of God when you step onto the spiritual battlefield? We must prepare ourselves for war by putting on the whole armor of God (Eph 6:10-20). However, God will do our fighting. We are to oppose (withstand) the enemy and the Lord will give us the victory. He is with us and will fight for us. Stand firm in His presence and you will see the mighty hand of God take down every stronghold and principality. Fear not, for God is man of war (Ex 15:3).

Father, we know that the battles we face daily belong to You. May we walk in humble confidence knowing that it is You who fight our battles. Keep us focused and alert, but most of all keep us dependent on You we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
